Salisbury, MD…In a showdown of the top two teams in the latest IWLCA Division III poll, second-ranked Salisbury University won out over top-ranked The College of New Jersey as the host Sea Gulls posted an 11-6 win over the Lions on Saturday.
The hosts scored the first four goals of the second half to turn a 5-4 advantage into a 9-4 lead. Salisbury has now the last three meetings between the perennial powers with TCNJ's last win coming in the 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament en route to their second of back-to-back national championships.
The loss knocked the Lions to 10-1 on the season, while the Sea Gulls improved to 14-1.
Junior Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) tallied four of TCNJ's six goals, while senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and freshman Jackie Riley (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) also scored.
Sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) finished the game with five saves.
TCNJ has another tough road test on the horizon heading to fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshal College for a 7 p.m. start in Friday, April 17.
