McCarthy scores twice as Lions down NYU

Annie McCarthy netted both goals for TCNJ.

Box Score

Ewing, NJ...Sophomore Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick) netted a pair of goals in the second half as The College of New Jersey women's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 2-0 win over New York University on Tuesday.

After a scoreless half, McCarthy opened the scoring 50 seconds into the second frame heading in a corner kick off of the foot of Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). She tacked on an insurance goal with 5:55 remaining lacing a rising shot into the upper corner of the net.

Those two goals were enough for senior keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made a pair of saves for her 33rd career shutout. That shutout moves her into third place on the program's all-time list.

For NYU, sophomore Rachael Ross (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) finished with 10 saves.

The Lions are back on the field participating in the Misericordia University Tournament. TCNJ opens the tournament taking on Lycoming College on Friday, September 4 at 4 p.m.
