Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team made the most of opening the season with four straight home games as the Lions finished the early stretch with an unblemished mark of 4-0. The fourth-ranked Lions picked up the last of those victories against FDU-Florham, beating the Devils by the score of 6-0 on Saturday at Lions' Stadium.
TCNJ's first road game proves to be its biggest test of the year so far as the team heads to fifth-ranked Ursinus College on Tuesday, September 22. Game time is 7 p.m.
The loss was the fifth in a row for FDU-Florham as they look to get back on track on Wednesday hosting Stevens Institute of Technology.
The Lions wasted no time in taking control of the game scoring on their first two shots for a 2-0 lead than five minutes into the contest. Senior Gabby Cafone (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored 1:40 later making it a 2-0 lead. Cafone wasn't done as she notched her second of the game later in the half. TCNJ carried that 3-0 lead into the half.
TCNJ matched those three goals in the second half as sophomore Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) tallied twice and freshman Emily Czar (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) notched her first collegiate goal.
Sophomore goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) recorded her second shutout of the season without having to make a save.
