Wayne, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team worked overtime and then some as the Lions extended their New Jersey Athletic Conference winning streak to 19 straight as they edged host William Paterson 1-0 in penalty strokes on Friday.
After 100 minutes of scoreless play, the Lions cashed in on their strokes winning 2-0. Junior Kellyn Riley (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and freshman Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) each scored during strokes.
Sophomore goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made three stops to garner her third shutout of the season and also denied the Pioneers on all four of their penalty strokes.
The Lions continue NJAC play on Friday, October 2 heading to Montclair State University for a 7 p.m. start with the Red Hawks.
