Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's basketball team won for the fourth time in five games defeating Rutgers University-Camden 71-38.
The win bumped the Lions (8-7, 2-2 NJAC) a game over the .500 mark overall and evened up their conference record. Sophomore Hannah Tait (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) led all scorers with 16 points as TCNJ picked up their first home win of the 2009-2010 season.
The Lions used a 13-0 run to open up a 22-6 lead in the opening half. Junior Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) led the way with seven, first-half points hitting all four of her token shots from the foul line as TCNJ coasted into the locker room with a comfortable 34-19 advantage.
Tait drained back-to-back three-point shots to open the second half and the Lions were off and running. By game's end, 10 players entered the scoring column including four in double figures. Junior Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) had a strong all-around game netting 10 points, collecting five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Prall tied with a career-high with 10 points and four assists while Jessica Imhoff (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) also finished with 10 points and grabbed six boards.
Team defense was a key component once again as TCNJ has held its opponent under 50 points in each of its eight wins this season. The Lions held the Scarlet Raptors (2-11, 0-5 NJAC) to 25 percent shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers.
Sophomore Stephanie Deisley (Riverside, NJ/Holy Cross) led Rutgers University-Camden with 12 points and four assists. Senior Morgan Kippley (Riverton, NJ/Delran) netted eight points as did freshman Cesyana Thompson-Blissett (Washington D.C./Theodore Roosevelt).
The Lions return to action this Saturday, January 16 for a New Jersey Athletic Conference basketball double-header against Rutgers University-Newark. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Packer Hall in Ewing, NJ.
The Scarlet Raptors return home to face New Jersey City University on Saturday, January 16 at 3 p.m.
