Baltimore, MD… The College of New Jersey field hockey team scored three times in the first half as the Lions reached the 10-win plateau with a solid 4-1 road win at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday.
The visitors didn't waste any time getting its offense going as sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) opened the scoring 12:11 into the game as she received an assist from as junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape). That assist extended Mitchell's point streak to six straight games.
That one-goal lead quickly swelled to 3-0 as TCNJ had a pair of scores just 32 seconds apart. The first of those came from Camille Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) at 21:15 with Mitchell again earning an assist on the play. Notos netted her second of the game seconds later as she batted in her own rebound.
The Lions added one more score in the final 10 minutes of the game as junior Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) picked up her second of the season on an assist senior Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic).
Johns Hopkins (6-5) spoiled TCNJ's bid for the shutout scoring its lone goal with 38 seconds remaining in the game.
TCNJ goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) garnered her 10th win of the season making four saves, three of which came in the second half.
The Lions have a quick turnaround as they return to the field on Tuesday, October 12 as they head to Ramapo College for a 4 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference contest against the Roadrunners. TCNJ is currently 2-0 in conference play.
