Pittman, NJ ... The men's and women's swimming and diving teams at The College of New Jersey have been selected as favorites to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference title in 2010-2011, according to a preseason poll voted by the league's by head coaches. Both teams are seeking to repeat after claiming the NJAC title last season.
The men's team, led by head coach Brian Bishop, placed sixth in the nation at the 2010 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships last year and returns a crop of decorated athletes. Two-time NJAC Swimmer of the Year Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) enters his senior year as one of the most accomplished swimmers in Lions' program history.
The women's team, led by head coach Jen Harnett, also returns an experienced group after finishing 9th in the nation at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships a year ago. Senior Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) and sophomore Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) highlight a squad that boasts 10, returning all-conference performers.
The men's and women's swimming and diving program open their seasons tomorrow in Packer Hall against conference foe Montclair State University at 2 p.m.
