#11 TCNJ falls at #3 Messiah, 4-2

Grantham, PA… Third-ranked Messiah College scored three times in the second half to rally past The College of New Jersey field hockey team on Thursday, 4-2 in Grantham, PA.

The 11th-ranked Lions (9-3) started the game strong as seniors Kellyn Riley (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) teamed up for the score 16:41 into the game. Riley picked up her third goal of the season with Waller assisting.

After the Falcons (8-2) pulled even 2:25 later, TCNJ regained that one-goal lead with 9:09 left before the break as junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) knocked in her team-leading eighth goal of the season. That goal was set up by assist from sophomore Caitlyn Jenkins (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway).

TCNJ carried that advantage into the second half, but Messiah tied the game four minutes into the fresh half and then netted the eventual game winner just 1:11 later. The Falcons added an insurance goal midway through the period to close out the scoring.

Junior goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) finished the game with eight saves for the Lions.

TCNJ remains on the road as they head to Baltimore on Sunday, October 10 to face the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University in a 1 p.m. start.
