Box Score

Hoboken, NJ... Stevens Institute of Technology used an 11-0 run in the second half to erase a small deficit and propel them to a 60-45 win over The College of New Jersey women's basketball team on Monday in the season opener for both teams in Hoboken.

That run came midway through the second half after Lion junior Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) knocked down a 3-pointer with an assist from Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep). The bucket from long range gave TCNJ a 37-36 lead with 13:08 showing on the clock.

The Ducks responded with the game's next 11 points as they surged to a 47-37 lead. Stevens then protected that advantage for the final 10 minutes to post its second season-opening win over the Lions in as many years. In all, the Ducks outscored the Lions 34-20 in the second half.

In the opening half, the Lions twice took their biggest lead of the game at 10 points. After the teams were deadlocked at 5-5, TCNJ went on an 11-1 run pushing the lead to double figures at 16-6 and moments later held an 18-8 edge.

The hosts battled back with a run of their own as the Ducks scored 16 of the next 20 points to lead 24-22. A 3-pointer by Imhof put TCNJ back in front, but Stevens got a pair of free throws from Victoria Webber (Silver Springs, MD/Ocean Township) with 38 seconds left as the Ducks carried a slim 26-25 lead into the half.

Senior Alex Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) made a successful return to the floor after missing the entire 2009-10 season due to injury as she tied for the team lead with 13 points, sharing that honor with Imhof. That duo also led the Lions on the glass as Imhof pulled down eight rebounds and Gregorek had seven.

The Lions will face Lehman College on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. start in Packer Hall for their home opener. At that game, TCNJ's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be accepting canned goods at the ticket table as part of their annual food drive for the holiday season.
