Box Score

Ewing, NJ ... A pair of seniors led The College of New Jersey women's basketball team to a 61-46 win over Salisbury University at Packer Hall on Saturday night.

Co-captains Alex Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) registered a double-double dropping in a season-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) had a tremendous all-around game compiling a season-high 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and a career-high seven steals as the Lions (5-4) notched their third consecutive win.

The Sea Gulls (4-6) were led by Chante' McKinney (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) who was one assist shy of a triple-double. She finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists, while teammate Glen Charlton (Landover, Md./Duval) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

It was third straight dominant team effort by TCNJ as coach Dawn Henderson's squad is beginning to click with one game remaining before the holiday break. While the Lions received strong individual performances from their starters (and off the bench), their defense was instrumental as they stymied the Salisbury offense, reducing them to 26 percent shooting from the floor.

The Lions held a 28-15 lead at the half. After the Sea Gulls pushed ahead 4-2, TCNJ surged with a 10-0 run as they kept the Salisbury scoreless over a 7:40 span. Hannah Tait (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) and Gregorek sandwiched a pair of buckets around a Washington lay-up to take a 12-4 lead.

Salisbury had difficulty finding its shooting stroke in the first half hitting just 6-of-37 shots and 1-of-6 free throw attempts. They did match the Lions under the boards with 25 rebounds, McKinney grabbed nine to go with three assists and three points.

The Lions picked up where they left off to begin the second half as they went on an 11-0 run to stretch the lead to 24 points, their largest of the game. Washington led the charge with a pair of steals and four points, but Salisbury immediately returned to climb back into the game.

KC Curran (Malver, Pa/Great Valley) drained a three-pointer at the 15:42 mark to give the Sea Gulls their first points of the second period. It ignited a 12-0 run to close the gap to 39-27, keeping the Lions scoreless for over five minutes.

A bucket by Washington broke the slide, but Salibury responded with a 3-pointer to make it a 41-30 game with 10:12 to play. Washington then connected on her biggest basket of the game from the behind the arc to push the lead back to 44-30.

From there, Gregorek and company took care of the rest. Tait finished nine points, while Candace Vigo (New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) added six points and five rebounds.

The Lions return to Packer Hall on Wednesday evening when they take on Marymount University at 5 p.m. in their final game before the holiday break.
