Camden, NJ…The College of New Jersey women's basketball team kept its quest for a spot in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament alive as the Lions netted an 82-38 road win at Rutgers University-Camden on Friday.
The victory puts the Lions at 6-5 in conference play and 13-10 overall. The loss knocked the Scarlet Raptors to 2-19 on the year and 0-11 in the NJAC.
The Lions took control of the game in the opening minutes taking 6-5 lead on a jumper by sophomore Hannah Tait (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy). TCNJ then increased that lead to 18-12 before reeling off 24 straight points for a comfortable 42-12 advantage. The Lions would lead 49-19 at the break thanks to an impressive 21-for-32 (65.6 percent) shooting performance from the floor.
TCNJ had another solid defensive half in the second once again allowing only 19 points as the team tied a season-best best yielding 38 points. On the offensive end of the court, the 82 points were a season best.
Tait led a balanced attack for the Lions with 15 points going 6-for-8 from floor, while junior Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) tallied 14. Junior Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) contributed with 12 points with sophomore Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) adding nine. Junior Jamie Cresbaugh (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) added to the victory with a career-high eight points.
TCNJ is right back on the court hosting second-ranked Kean University on Saturday, February 13 at 1 p.m. in Packer Hall in its final home game of the season.
