Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey men's tennis team took on Skidmore College in the team's first match of the season with the visiting Thoroughbreds pulling a narrow 5-4 win over the Lions on Sunday at TCNJ's Tennis Complex.
Dean Thompson (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was a double winner for the Lions as he won at third singles by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3, while teaming up with TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) to earn an 8-6 win at second doubles.
Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro S.) and Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro S.) added a win at first doubles for the Lions with a 9-8 (7-4) victory with TCNJ's other win coming at fourth singles as Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) picked up a 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2 triumph.
The Lions are 0-1 on the young season, while Skidmore improved to 5-1.
