Swarthmore, PA… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team scored a big road win on Saturday as the Lions slipped past host Swarthmore College 5-4.
The win puts the Lions at 4-2 on the season.
With the match tied a 4-4 and only the first singles match still on the court, TCNJ's Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) secured the win for the Lions as he pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. He really came on strong late battling back from a 4-2 deficit in the third set reeling off the final four points to clinch the victory.
Freshman Keith Goldstein (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) added a win at fifth singles (7-5, 6-3) and Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) scored a win in the sixth position (6-4, 6-2).
In doubles, TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) and Dean Thompson (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added to the victory with a come-from-behind victory at second doubles. They trailed 7-4 and were down two match points before pulling out a 9-8 win, claiming the tiebreaker, 7-2.
The Lions also won at third doubles as the tandem of Lee and Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) collected an 8-0 triumph.
The Lions are right back on the court on Sunday as they take on 13th-ranked Kalamazoo College in a 1 p.m. start as TCNJ's Tennis Complex.
