Box Score

Madison, NJ… Riding the strength of its offense to its first three wins, The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team came up with a solid defensive performance on Saturday as the Lions won a low-scoring 6-4 decision at Drew University.

The win keeps fifth-ranked TCNJ undefeated on the year at 4-0, while the Rangers dipped to 2-4.

The opening 30 minutes saw very limited scoring as the Lions clung to a 2-1 lead at the break. Staking TCNJ to that lead with goals were junior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape).

After the Rangers knotted the game at two early in the second half, the Lions reeled off three straight goals taking advantage of their chances from the eight-meter line. Sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and senior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each scored on free-position shots making it a 4-2 game, before senior Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) cashed in on a feed from Mitchell bumping the lead to three goals.

Drew got one of the goals back, but Jaeger netted her second of the game making it 6-3 with the Rangers adding one last goal in the closing minutes.

TCNJ goalie Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) put forth another steady effort for the Lions as the junior made five saves to keep her record perfect on the season at 4-0.

Jaeger finished with a pair of goals giving raising her season total to 23, while Mitchell scored once and set up two others. In just four games this season, Mitchell has already set a career high for assists in a season dishing out 14.

The Lions have a short break in the schedule before returning to the field on Thursday, March 25 hosting Ursinus College at Lions' Stadium in a 7 p.m. start.
