Denver earns All-American honors at NCAAs

Cedar Rapids, IA...The College of New Jersey's Mike Denver (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) made his debut at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships a memorable one as the Lion junior earned All-American honors on Saturday in Iowa.

Denver battled back to finish seventh at 184 pounds in the tournament becoming TCNJ's 135th All-American. By finishing with a 3-2 record over the course of the two days, Denver tied a school record for most wins in a season capping his tremendous year with a 45-4 record. Those 45 wins tie him with John Johnson, who accomplished that feat in 1994-95 season.

The 2010 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships were held in Cedar Rapids, IA at the U.S. Cellular Center.

On Saturday, he opened with sixth-seeded Todd Becker of Wartburg College in the consolation bracket and pulled out an exciting 6-4 win in overtime securing All-American honors. In his next match, he took on top-seeded Tyler Burkle of Coe College, who was upset by in the second round of the tournament. Burkle defeated Denver 9-2 putting the Lion in the seventh-place match. In that bout Denver held off Ben Adams of John Carroll by the score of 8-7.
