Graber pitches Lions to NJAC win over Stockton

Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey baseball team won its fourth straight conference game downing Richard Stockton College 10-1.

Freshman Bobby Graber (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) had another strong pitching performance limiting the Ospreys to one run on six hits while striking out five. The rookie right-hander has now surrendered just four earned runs in his last 24 innings pitched.

Sophomore James Ruzich (Verona, NJ/Montclair Kimberly) led TCNJ (13-13, 6-3 NJAC) with three doubles and two runs batted in. Ruzich, who is now hitting an even .400 on the season, doubled to left field, right field, and right-center field.

The Lions got off to a quick start as Mike Galeotafiore (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) hit a sacrifice fly and freshman Nick Cifelli (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) stroke an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.

The Ospreys responded with their lone run of the game when clean-up hitter Mike Wasco (Riverside, NJ/Riverside) tripled and scored on a ground ball by freshman Gage Mick (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland).

TCNJ scored two more in the second and tacked on a run in the fourth before opening the game up with four runs in the fifth. Ruzich ripped one of his three doubles to drive in a run and senior Ryan Anzelone (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) belted a run-scoring double to left-center field.

Graber gained confidence as they game wore on facing just 21 batters in his final five innings of work. Freshman Matt Rawson (Florham Park, NJ/Florham Park) went the final two innings of scoreless relief to give the Lions a victory heading into an important conference double-header at William Paterson University tomorrow. 

Scott Kelly (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor North), Jason Zegarski (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence), Chris Esperon (Union, NJ/Union Catholic), and Ed Zakzrewski (Three Bridge, NJ/Hunterdon Central) also had two hits for TCNJ.

Wasco finished with two hits while senior Matt Allen (Salem, NJ/Woodstown) collected a pair of safeties for Richard Stockton.

The Lions square off with the Pioneers tomorrow with the first game starting at 11:30 p.m.
