Ewing, NJ…For the second straight day, The College of New Jersey men's tennis team pulled out a win in the final match as the Lions this time slipped past visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, 5-4.
This time around, sophomore Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) won 6-4, 6-2 at sixth singles to clinch the win for the Lions breaking a four-all deadlock.
Close matches are nothing new to the Lions as seven of their 16 matches were decided by one point.
TCNJ finished the record season with a 10-6 record, while the Ducks saw their six-match winning streak come to an end falling to 16-3.
Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) and Keith Goldstein (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) added wins in singles play with Yu winning in the third spot and Goldstein garnering a win at the fifth position.
In doubles, the Lions won the first two spots as Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) posted an 8-6 win and the combination of Dean Thompson (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) won 8-4.
TCNJ will await the announcement of the field for the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament on May 10, while the Ducks will compete in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament on May 8-9.
