Box Score
Ewing, NJ…Taking on a ranked opponent for the first time this season, The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team passed that test with flying colors as the Lions netted a 13-10 victory over visiting Gettysburg College on Saturday.
The win put fifth-ranked TCNJ at 7-0 on the season, while the sixth-ranked Bullets dropped to 9-2.
The game was tight right from the opening draw as the teams traded goals for the first 20 minutes of the contest with the Bullets taking a 4-3 lead on a goal from Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, NJ/The Peddie School). That goal came with 11:24 left before the half.
The Lions then seized control of the game at that point ripping off five straight goals sending the hosts into the half with an 8-4 lead. Senior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) ignited that run with a goal in transition before junior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) put TCNJ in front for good scoring with 8:58 on the clock.
Sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) took charge the rest of the half as she netted the last three goals with assists coming from sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Seldeen, and Jaeger as the Lions forged a four-goal lead at the break.
Gettysburg started the second half quickly as Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, MD/Holton-Arms) scored 2:12 into the new period, but TCNJ got the goal right back as Jaeger cashed in on a feed from Seldeen.
That Lion tandem then switched roles as Jaeger set up Seldeen for the score increasing the lead to 10-5.
On two occasions the Bullets were able to close within three goals (11-8 and 12-9), but each time TCNJ goalie Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made key saves closing the door. Waller came up big throughout finishing with 10 saves.
TCNJ's final goal came with 4:08 left as Jaeger scored unassisted, while the Bullets added a final goal with 1:37 remaining on a marker by Hannah Church (Ellicott City, MD/Mount de Sales).
Notos had a big game for the Lions as she finished with a season-high five goals, while Jaeger had another solid performance with four goals and three assists. Seldeen posted her second straight six-point effort scoring three times and dishing out three helpers.
Church led the Bullets with three goals and Hollis scored twice and set up two others.
Senior Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) finished with nine saves for Gettysburg.
TCNJ opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, April 6 hosting Rutgers University-Camden in a 7 p.m. start. It will be the first meeting between the two schools as the Scarlet Raptors are in their first season of play.
