Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey softball team ran its winning streak to seven straight as the Lions took a doubleheader from host Kean University on Tuesday.
In the first game, TCNJ posted a 10-2 win and the team completed the sweep with a 3-1 come-from-behind win in the second.
TCNJ, which is ranked eighth in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association, is now 17-3 on the season and 4-0 in the conference.
Next up for the Lions is a non-conference doubleheader at Haverford College with head coach Sally Miller poised to reach a milestone. Miller will enter the game with a career mark of 398-179-2.
Game 1
TCNJ 10, Kean University 2
The Lions cruised through the opening game of the twin bill putting up a couple of big innings. TCNJ got things started in the second as junior Caitlin Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) singled in a run putting the Lions in front 1-0.
TCNJ scored three times in both the fourth and fifth innings with the Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John) and Rebecca Florczyk (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) each driving in runs with base hits.
Senior Dani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) accounted for all three runs in the fifth as she blasted a three-run homer staking the Lions out to a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Lions added three more runs, while the host Cougars pushed a pair of across making the final 10-2.
Senior Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) had a huge game at the plate going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while Kent finished with three hits.
Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) garnered her eighth win of the season with a complete game as she struck out seven.
Game 2
TCNJ 3, Kean University 1
Kean took the early 1-0 with a run in the first, but the Lions battled back with single runs in three straight innings to put the game away.
TCNJ tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Seavers doubled and scored as Seamster singled up the middle.
In the fifth, the Lions took the lead for the first time as Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood).
The lead grew to 3-1 in the sixth as Lee doubled to left bringing home Florczyk.
Lion hurler Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) continued her banner start as she improved to 9-0 on the season striking out 10 and allowing the one run on three hits.
Lee paced TCNJ's offense with three hits.
