Providence, RI... The College of New Jersey softball team rebounded with an 8-0 win over Wesleyan University to keep its dream alive at the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships at Rhode Island College.

The victory sends the Lions (33-9) to a meeting with Moravian College tomorrow (Sunday) at noon. Moravian (32-12) has won both of its games in the tournament, defeating Neumann College 5-0 and Wesleyan 4-0.

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) was brilliant throwing a one-hit shutout to lead the Lions to another day on the softball diamond. Fitzsimmons set the tone early striking out six of the first nine batters she faced to put her teammates back on track following a tough loss earlier in the day.

TCNJ rapped out timely hits with runners in scoring position, which eluded them in their 1-0 loss to Kean University. Seniors Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Dani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, Oakcrest) drove in runs in the opening frame to give the Lions' offense the spark it needed in taking an early 2-0 lead.

Hagel went 2-for-2 with a double, triple, and two RBIs to post her stamp on the regional tournament.

After taking a 3-0 lead in the third inning when freshman Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) knocked in classmate Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South), TCNJ put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth. Junior Caitlyn Seamster highlighted the inning with an RBI double to center field, while Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) drove in a run with her fifth hit of the regional tournament.

Fitzsimmons (17-1) continued to dominate the Cardinal line-up as her offense tacked onto the lead. She had a perfect game through three innings and a no-hitter through four before it was broken up with two outs in the fifth on a base hit by Alexis Kral. Fitzsimmons finished with eight strikeouts and tossed her sixth shutout of the season.

Wesleyan (24-18-1) managed only three baserunners the entire game and didn't have a player reach third base. After burying Kean 15-3 in five innings the opening round, the Cardinals totaled only five hits in a 4-0 loss to Moravian and a base hit to center off Fitzsimmons.

The Lions did face the Greyhounds earlier this season. Moravian won the first game 1-0, while Fitzsimmons spun a four-hit shutout as TCNJ took the back-end game 1-0 on March 20.
