Reading, PA… Senior Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) notched the game-winning goal midway through the second half as The College of New Jersey field hockey team rallied past host Alvernia University on Sunday for a 3-1 victory.
The victory lifts the 12th-ranked Lions to 6-1 on the season
After the Crusaders grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the contest, but TCNJ battled back to knot the score as sophomore Camille Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored as she redirected a shot from senior Kellyn Riley (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West). That score would hold through the rest of the half as the teams were deadlocked at one apiece at the break.
The Lions got that deciding goal 12:13 into the second half as Falcone netted her team-leading fifth of the season with an assist from sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic). The goal was Falcone's second game winner of the season.
Passucci added an insurance goal with 7:40 left in regulation for the first two-goal game of her career. Earning an assist on that goal was senior Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright).
Junior goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made one save as she picked up her sixth win of the season.
TCNJ has a pair of games in the week ahead as they host fourth-ranked Ursinus College on Tuesday, September 21 and then open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 25 taking on William Paterson University. Both games are in Lions' Stadium.
