Hoboken, NJ… Senior Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) notched a pair of goals as The College of New Jersey field hockey team picked up its second win on the young season with a 3-1 triumph over King's College on Saturday in the opening day of the Stevens Tournament in Hoboken.
The win put the 17th-ranked Lions at 2-0 on the season as they cap their busy opening week of the season on Sunday facing 16th-ranked Juniata College in a noon start at Stevens Institute of Technology.
Falcone kicked off a flurry of scoring in the final 10:48 of the opening half as she knocked nice pass from junior Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic).
The Monarchs pulled even just over five minutes later before the Lions had a strong finish to the opening frame.
Notos didn't let the game remain tied for long as she collected her first goal of the season 2:20 later as tapped in a pass from junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape).
Falcone then scored at the 35:00 minute mark of the half staking the Lions to a 3-1 lead as senior Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) picked up an assist on the play.
Lion net minder Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her second win of the season and she picked up a pair of saves.
