Purchase, NY… The College of New Jersey field hockey team netted a pair of goals in each half as the Lions won their fourth straight game to start the year with a 4-0 shutout at Manhattanville College on Tuesday.
The win keeps the 17th-ranked Lions undefeated on the season at 4-0, while the Valiants dipped to 0-2.
TCNJ opened the scoring 13:32 into the game as sophomore Camille Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) notched her second goal in as many games as she knocked in a pass from senior Kellyn Riley (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry West) on a penalty corner.
Riley then made it a 2-0 game at the 17:02 mark with an unassisted goal.
In the second half, the Lions used a pair of quick goals to double their advantage as sophomore Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) deflected in a shot by junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape). Senior Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) recorded TCNJ's fourth goal with an assist from classmate Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright). Nealon's goal came with 2:37 expired in the new half, while Falcone's came 2:05 later.
Junior goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her second shutout of the season with having to face a shot on goal.
TCNJ is idle until Saturday when they head to Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham for a 5:30 p.m. start against the Devils.
