Montclair St. pulls away from TCNJ in second half

...Montclair State University used a 10-point run in the second half to surge past The College of New Jersey women's basketball as the Lions fell to the host Red Hawks 57-44 on Saturday at the Panzer Athletic Center.

The loss dropped TCNJ to 2-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play and 9-8 overall, while Montclair State squared its record at 9-9 and is 3-4 in conference play.

Things were tight in the opening half as the two teams were tied on four occasions, while TCNJ's biggest advantage was five points and MSU's was four. The Red Hawks broke a 25-25 tie with just over a minute left in the period knocking down a 3-pointer to carry a three-point lead into the intermission.

In the second half, the game remained close with MSU maintaining the lead. The Lions, however, twice forged back into a tie as freshman Tiffany DeTulio (Colts, NJ/Colts Neck) sank two 3-points that tied the score with the latter of those making it a 35-35 game.

The Red Hawks countered with big 10-0 run and held TCNJ without a point for 8:02 and then protected its lead picking up the conference win.

Junior Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led the Lions with 13 points, while senior Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) finished with 11.

The Lions continue NJAC play on Wednesday, January 26 heading to Rowan University for a 6 p.m. start with the Profs.
