Pomona, NJ...Junior Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored a career-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough as The College of New Jersey women's basketball team dropped a key 63-56 decision at Richard Stockton on Monday.
The loss dropped the Lions to 3-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference South Division as they remain in the hunt for the third and final playoff spot. TCNJ currently sits in fourth place and are 10-9 overall.
The Ospreys are tied for second place in the South Division with Rowan University was both teams have 6-2 records. Overall, Richard Stockton is 13-6.
Imhof finished the game going 5-for-11 from the floor, including a 3-for-4 performance from behind the 3-point arc. She also made the most of her chances from the foul line going a near-perfect 7-for-8.
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0, but the hosts regrouped going on a 12-2 run to take the lead. TCNJ later tied the game at 18-apiece thanks to a modest 6-0 run as Hannah Tait (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) and Imhof made baskets from the floor, while Tiffany DeTulio (Colts, NJ/Colts Neck) knocked down a pair from the foul line.
Richard Stockton responded with seven straight points, but Tait nailed a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the period cutting the hosts lead to 25-21 at the break.
The Ospreys protected that lead throughout the second frame as they didn't allow the Lions to get any closer than two points, which they did on two occasions.
Tait also reached double figures for TCNJ as she had 15, with a pair of 3-pointers.
TCNJ resumes NJAC play on Wednesday, February 2 hosting second-ranked Kean University in a 6 p.m. tip-off in Packer Hall.
