Buffalo, NY … The College of New Jersey football team gave up some big plays early in the game and were unable to recover as they fell to Buffalo State College 34-12 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.

The loss drops the Lions to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in the NJAC. The Bengals (3-4, 2-3 NJAC) won their third consecutive home game against four road defeats.

Buffalo rushed for 365 yards in the game and scored 21 unanswered points in the opening half, all of which came on the ground. Ismail Brooks tore off a 53-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage just 45 seconds into the game. Rich Pete followed that with an 83-yard dash later in the opening period to put the Bengals up 14-0.

TCNJ's offense sputtered early on, punting the ball away in its first six possessions. After turning the ball over on downs with just over three minutes remaining in the half, Buffalo drove 58 yards on six plays, capped by a 21-yard TD run from Casey Kacz.

Following the intermission, the Lions couldn't get much going as they fumbled the ball away on its first play of the second half. That was followed by two more punts and an interception, before Kacz notched his second touchdown run of the day from eight yards out to stretch their lead to 28-0.

TCNJ finally broke through when
William Friedrich (Berlin, NJ/East Stroudsburg South) found
Glenn Grainger (Island Heights, NJ/Holmdel) with an 11-yard touchdown pass with 4:31 remaining in the game. Freshman
Brad Young (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) added his second touchdown of the season, running it in from five yards out, but it was too little too late for the Lions.

Friedrich threw for 82 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-12 passing. Senior
Jay Donoghue (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was 16-of-30 on the day for 134 yards. The running game, however, was held to under 100 yards on the ground for the first time this season, compiling 98 yards rushing.

Grainger had four catches for TCNJ as did juniors
Nicholas Tyson (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro), Matthew Rosati, (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne), and
 Brian Mills (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence).

The defense was led by junior linebacker
Greg Burns (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) who had a season-high 12 tackles, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery on the day. Sophomore
Nick Bricker (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) added 11 tackles, and senior
Derek Goreczny (Somerville, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had seven tackles and a forced fumble.

Junior
Thomas Hoppe (Manville, NJ/Immaculata) also recorded a sack for TCNJ.

The Benglas had two runners eclipse the 100-yard plateau on the day as Pete (156 yards) and Brooks Estarfaa (101 yards) led the ground attack.

TCNJ will look to regroup quickly as they square off against Montclair State University next Saturday on Homecoming Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
