Playoff berth on the line for Lions in season finale

Ewing, NJ...A playoff atmosphere will come to Packer Hall in the final game of the regular season for The College of New Jersey women's basketball team as they vie for the third and final spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference South Division.

The Lions currently sit in fourth place in the division with a 6-6 record, one game behind third-place Rowan University, which is 7-5. These two teams will meet in Packer Hall on Wednesday, February 16 with the winner claiming that third spot, while the other team will see their season come to a close. Despite sitting one-game back, a TCNJ victory would send them to the postseason as they would hold a tiebreaker over the Profs by sweeping the season series. The Lions earned that first win on February 7 with a 67-55 win in Glassboro.

“We are thankful to have an opportunity to play for a spot in the playoffs,” stated TCNJ head coach Dawn Henderson. “I think we are ready for it. We have won some big games of late and I would really expect us to come out and fight for that spot.”

Kean University has already locked up the top-seed in the South Division with Richard Stockton College in the second slot.

Either TCNJ or Rowan will open the NJAC Tournament on Saturday at the second seed from the North Division. Heading into the final day of the regular season, Rutgers University – Newark currently holds that spot with a 6-7 conference mark, while Ramapo College is one game back with one to play.

One strength the Lions will rely on is team defense. TCNJ ranks second in the conference allowing 53.0 points per game. On nine occasions this season the Lions have held the opposition to 50 points or less.

In the first meeting the Profs, junior Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led all scorers with a career-high 22 points as she was a blistering 5-for-7 from 3-point range. Senior Alex Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angles) added 16 points, while junior Hannah Tait (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) finished with 10.

The game will also mark the final game for five Lion seniors. That group includes Gregorek, Jamie Cresbaugh (Sparta, NJ/Sparta), Nicole Diaz (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), and Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep).
