Newark, NJ...The College of New Jersey women's basketball team saw its season come to a close as the Lions fell at Rutgers University-Newark 63-48 on Saturday in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Lions, the third seed from the South Division, capped their season at 14-11. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders, the second seed from the North Division, advance to Wednesday's semifinal at top-seeded Kean University.

The Lions led early scoring the game's first three points as senior Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) knocked down a free throw and classmate Alex Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angles) sank a field goal, while the team's defense kept the hosts scoreless for the opening 5:30 of the game.

Rutgers-Newark used a 13-3 run in the latter stages of the half to open up a nine-point lead and eventually carried a 23-18 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Loins twice battled back to tie the score with the second of those coming at 40-40 with 8:47 left in the game. The Scarlet Raiders, however, then used a 10-0 run over the next 2:27 and never relinquished that lead.

Gregorek had a big game for the Lions as she had 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor. She also added seven rebounds. She capped her standout career at TCNJ as the 13th all-time leading scorer with 1,039 points and also ranks sixth in career rebounds with 662.

Senior Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) added nine points for TCNJ, while Washington had a balanced effort in her final game with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
