Union, NJ
...The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team rattled off 11 straight goals to close out the first half and never looked back as the third-ranked Lions cruised to a 20-1 win at Kean University on Friday.

The game was the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams as TCNJ improved to 2-0 overall, while the Cougars slipped to 0-2.

After Lions sophomore Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) opened the scoring 2:22 into the game, the hosts countered just over seven minutes later as Lyndsey Cannon tied the game at a goal apiece.

TCNJ then took over with 11 straight goals over the final 20 minutes of the half. Junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) started that run with an unassisted before senior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) made it 2-0 with her first of the game. The Lions kept things going as Nealon, junior Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic), and freshman Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) combined to score the next three goals in a span of 1:16 as the lead ballooned to 6-1.

The Lions added another half dozen goals before the break with Jaeger and Garavente each scoring two during that stretch.

That offensive prowess carried over into the second half for the Lions as they accounted for all eight goals in the final frame.

On the defensive end of the field, the Lions limited the Cougars to only four shots on goal and senior Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) finished with three saves.

Jaeger and Mitchell led the scoring brigade as both players scored four goals and dished out two assists. Freshman Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) recorded her second straight six-point effort with two goals and four assists, while Nealon had three goals and a pair of helpers. Garavente also recorded a hat trick for the Lions

TCNJ faces a tough non-conference match-up on Sunday as the Lions host seventh-ranked SUNY Cortland in a 1 p.m. start at Lions' Stadium.
