Collegeville, PA...The College of New Jersey's top-ranked defense turned in another stifling effort as the Lions' women's lacrosse team recorded a 20-3 win at Ursinus College on Tuesday.
The win puts the third-ranked Lions at 6-0 on the season, while the Bears squared their record at 3-3.
TCNJ's defense leads the country in goals-against-average at a mere 2.20 and did nothing to hurt that standing as they allowed only three goals. The Lions have allowed only 14 goals through six games and have not allowed an opponent to score more than five goals in any game.
The Lion offense was also in gear as they eclipsed the 20-goal mark for the third time this season.
The game was tight early as the teams were tied at 1-1 four minutes into the game, but junior
Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) put TCNJ in front for good with her first of the game. That goal was also the 100th of her career.
The Lions dominated the opening frame as they led 14-2 at the half and then added six more goals in the final 30 minutes.
One game after becoming the program's all-time leader in assists, junior
Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had another big game with 10 points, including a season-high seven assists. Notos and freshman
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) each scored four times and added an assist. Senior
Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomore
Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) added even more balance to the offense as each player picked up a hat trick.
Senior goalie
Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made one save for her sixth win of the season.
The return home on Saturday, March 26 hosting Drew University in a 1 p.m. start in Lions' Stadium.
