Camden, NJ...Top-ranked The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team flexed its muscles on both ends of the field as the Lions dropped host Rutgers University – Camden 17-0 on Tuesday.
The win puts the Lions at 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while moving to 11-0 overall. The game was the conference opener for the Scarlet Raptors and dropped their record to 2-4.
Senior
Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) etched her name into the program record book as the all-time leading goal scorer as she tucked in three goals on the day raising her career total to 234, passing the old mark of 233 set by Lauren Dougher (2003-06). Jaeger netted the record-breaker in the opening half cashing in on an assist from
Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) with 14:25 remaining in the opening frame.
Jaeger also added four assists raising her career total in points to 317 leaving her tied with Dougher's mark of 317.
While Jaeger her teammates were busy scoring at one end of the field, the team's defense posted its second shutout of the season. The team entered the game as the nation's best defense allowing a mere 2.60 goals per game and with its latest shutout lowered that number to 2.36. Through 11 games this season the Lions have allowed only 26 goals.
Senior
Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and junior Jessica Persicketti (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) each played a half in goal to combine on the shutout.
Mitchell finished with a game-high seven points as she scored twice and handed out five assists, while junior
Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) notched four goals raising her season total to a team-leading 41.
Junior
Sara Keating (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and freshman
Jennamarie Colicchia (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) also added to the win scoring two goals apiece, while freshman
Rebecca Frankoski (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) netted her first collegiate goal.
Things will get much tougher for the Lions in their next game as they travel to second-ranked Salisbury University on Sunday, April 10th for an 11 a.m. showdown with the Sea Gulls.
