Amherst, MA…Senior Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) netted the deciding victory at third singles as The College of New Jersey men's tennis team edged Skidmore College 5-4 in NCAA Division III Tournament action on Saturday at Amherst College.

Yu won in straight sets taking the opener 7-6 (9-7) and 6-2. The Lion came up huge in the opening-set tiebreaker rallying from a 6-2 deficit and fought off five set points in the process.

TCNJ (9-4) will face host and top-seeded Amherst College as the Lord Jeffs beat Roger Williams University 5-0 to improve to 32-1. That match will be played at 9 a.m., but if weather forces the match inside, it will be moved to 2 p.m.

The Lions led the match 2-1 following the doubles portion as they picked up wins in the second and third slots. Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Dean Thompson (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) won 9-7 at second doubles, while the tandem of Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Yu won 8-5 in the final position.

Senior Jeremy Eckardt (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) picked up a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles and sophomore TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) won 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth spot.
