Ewing, NJ... Four members of The College of New Jersey softball team were cited for efforts on the field as they garnered All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honors.
Junior
Crystal Lee (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) and sophomore
Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) were selected All-NJAC First Team, while sophomore
Liz Huttner (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and freshman
Alex Carisone (Branchburg, NJ/Rutgers Prep) each landed a spot on the second team.
Lee earned All-NJAC First Team honors for the second straight year securing an at-large bid. The outfielder leads TCNJ in batting (.371), hits (44), runs (33), triples (6), on-base percentage (.462), and stolen bases (31). She has started every game in left field for the Lions and has chipped in with a pair of outfield assists.
Hommen has been a fixture at third base all season and has provided plenty of offensive pop in the line-up. The sophomore leads the team with 12 doubles, which ranks fifth in the NJAC, and has driven in 24 runs. Her 40 hits this season are second on the team and she has also scored 15 runs and walked 11 times.
Huttner was the third Lion to start each game this season as the center fielder boasted a perfect fielding percentage taking care of all 47 of her chances and adding a team-best three outfield assists. At the plate, she is batting .336 with 18 runs scored and 15 runs batted in. Earlier in the year, she was tabbed the NJAC and ECAC Metro Player of the Week for the week ending on March 27.
Carisone had a strong first season on the mound for the Lions as she is tied for the team lead with nine victories, including six against conference opponents. She logged a team-high 100.2 innings and 72 strike outs. Carisone was twice named the NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week and fired back-to-back one-hitters recording shutout wins over Rutgers University-Newark and Rutgers University-Camden.
The Lions are back on the field on Friday, May 6 taking on William Paterson University in the second round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament held at Rowan University. TCNJ knocked off second-seeded Montclair State 1-0 in nine innings in the opening round.
