Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Stevens Institute of Technology in a wild match at Lions' Stadium.
In a game that the Ducks (3-2) seemed to have well in-hand holding a 2-0 lead with less than six minutes to play, three goals in the final moments of the contest followed by a Lions' tally that was called back due to a foul in the box in the 89
th minute made it a thriller.
The Lions (3-2) pulled within a goal when junior
Kevin Shaw (Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham) slipped through the defense for his second goal of the season. But junior
Zach Adler (McKinney, Tx/McKinney North) score less than a minute later to push the lead back to 3-1.
Senior
Ed Kozic (Raritan, NJ/Immaculata) then took a feed from Shaw and knocked it home at the 86:27 mark to close the gap to 3-2. TCNJ pressed in the final three minutes of the play, but Stevens held on for its third win of the season.
The Ducks got on the board just over six minutes into the match when Adler sent a long cross from the left side to from Ernesto Solis. The sophomore forward promptly placed a header off the left post and into the net for a 1-0 advantage.
The Lions were sluggish to start, but got things going later in the half. Their best chance came with nine minutes remaining in the opening period when
Chris Pisano (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) sent a ground pass in from the end line that just eluded forward
Luigi Moriello (Ewing, NJ/Notre Dame).
Stevens made it a 2-0 game just over 13 minutes after the intermission when Adler fed junior
Victor Daza (North Plainfield, NJ/St. Benedict's) for his second goal of the season.
Play remained even over the next 15 minutes. TCNJ goalkeeper
Adam Friedman (Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) made several clutch stops that kept the Lions in the game, which proved to be critical. Friedman finished with five saves in the game.
