Wayne, NJ… Freshman Victoria Martin (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made her first collegiate goal an important one as she netted the lone goal as The College of New Jersey edged Williams Paterson University 1-0 on Friday in the conference opener for both teams.

The win put the Lions at 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. It was also the team's 10th straight conference win dating back to the 2009 season.

Martin scored off of a scramble that began off of a penalty corner with classmate Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) earning an assist on the play. That goal came with 17:34 remaining in the second half.

That goal was enough for the Lions as senior goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her first shutout of the season making one save.

TCNJ returns home on Sunday, September 18 to face Alvernia University in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. in Lions' Stadium.
