Ewing NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team picked up its fourth straight win on Sunday as the Lions handled visiting FDU-Florham by the score of 4-0.
The win puts 10th-ranked TCNJ at 6-1 on the season, while the Devils dropped to 4-5.
TCNJ took control just past the midway mark of the opening half as they scored two goals in 3:33. Freshman
Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) scored the first of those goals with an assist from
Caitlyn Jenkins (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway).
That duo reversed roles on the second tally as Jenkins deposited a pass from Healy into the FDU-Florham goal for a 2-0 advantage. That goal came with 11:51 left in the half.
The Lions matched their goal output from the first period in the final 35 minutes as
Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) blistered a shot for her fourth goal of the year off of a nice feed from
Erin Waller (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township). That goal came with 7:31 showing on the clock.
Junior
Christy Wham (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) capped the scoring with an unassisted marker with just over a minute left in the game.
Lion goalie
Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her second shutout of the season as she stopped the only shot she faced.
TCNJ held a decisive 22-1 edge in shots and its offense has been clicking over the course of the last three games scoring 17 goals in that time.
The Lions faces second-ranked Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA on Tuesday in 7 p.m. start, while the Devils host Dickinson College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
