Cortland, NY...The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season as the Lions fell 9-8 at SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
 
The loss put the third-ranked Lions at 5-1 on the season, while the fourth-ranked Red Dragons moved to 3-1.
 
The game was tight throughout with four ties, but Cortland broke the game's final tie with 6:17 left in the game and held on for the one-goal win.
 
TCNJ's Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) led all players with four goals and sophomore Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) added a pair.
 
Sophomore Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) had a balanced performance with a goal, three draw controls, and four ground balls.
 
In goal for the Lions, Kelsey Zinck (Burke, VA/James W. Robinson) finished with a career-high nine saves.
 
The Lions are back at home on Tuesday, March 20 when they host Ursinus College at 7 p.m.
