Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey men's tennis team swept all nine points from visiting Muhlenberg College on Sunday as the Lions won four single matches in straight sets and then as a team allowed only six points in doubles play.
TCNJ is now 3-1 on the season.
The Lions took charge from the start winning all three doubles matches as the top team of
TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) and
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won 8-4, while the second pair of
Howard Telson Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and
Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and the third duo of and
Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and
Jordan Cruz (Manasqaun, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) each won by identical 8-1 scores.
TCNJ continued to roll in singles as
Steven Fernandez, Nichols, Telson, and Allen each won in straight sets, while Riley won in three sets. Senior
Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) won at fifth singles as he fell 7-5 in the opening and came back to win the second 6-1, but the match was ended midway through the third set with Lee leading when the Muhlenberg player retired due to injury.
The Lions are idle until Sunday, March 25 when they head to Flushing, NY to take on New York University at the National Tennis Center.
