Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) won the deciding match at fifth singles to secure a 5-4 for The College of New Jersey men's tennis team got past visiting Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday.
The Lions were leading 4-3 with two matches still going, but Fernandez wrapped up the win for the Lions as he won 7-5, 6-1, earning that valuable fifth team point.
Marc Nichols (Lawrenceville, NJ/Princeton) added a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles, while
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) added a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles.
TCNJ also earned two points in doubles action starting in the top spot as
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and Fernandez won 8-6, while the third pairing of Nichols and
Bill Carrig (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) posted an 8-3 victory.
The win put the Lions at 5-2 on the season, while the Diplomats fell to 4-5.
