Ewing, NJ...Salisbury University avoided becoming the second top-ranked women's lacrosse team to fall to The College of New Jersey this season as the Sea Gulls scored the game's final three goals for a 12-10 victory over the Lions on Friday.

Two weeks ago, TCNJ slipped past then top-ranked Gettysburg College by a pair of goals (17-15), but this time around the Lions came up two goals shy of knocking another team from the top of the rankings.

Salisbury remained undefeated at 14-0, while TCNJ dipped to 11-3.

The teams were tied eight times in the game with the final one coming with 10:45 left in the second half as Salisbury's Allie Wheatley (Cambridge, MD/Salisbury School) knotted the game at 10-10. That goal came 4:22 after Lion junior Trenna Hill (Syracuse, NY/Lafayette) whipped in a free-position shot putting the hosts in front for the final time.

Salisbury then received another goal from Wheatley and one from Katie Bollhorst (Severna Park, MD/St. Mary's) with 4:02 left on the clock making the difference 12-10.

The Lions had one final possession, but Sea Gull goalie Ashton Wheatley (Cambridge, MD/Salisbury School) made one of her 11 saves and Salisbury then ran out the remaining time on the clock.

The teams finished the opening half the same way they started the game, tied. The Sea Gulls as Bollhorst opened the scoring 3:14 into the game, but TCNJ responded with four straight goals.

Sophomore Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) scored back-to-back goals from almost identical spots the far side of the Salisbury crease. Hill bumped that margin to 3-1 with 24:02 showing on the clock and Pigott netted her third of the game minutes later giving the hosts a three-goal lead.

The Sea Gulls made a run of their own with the next three goals with Lauren Feusahrens (Solomons Island, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) getting the first, followed by scores from Bollhurst and Bethany Baer (Westminster, MD/Westminster).

The teams then traded goals the rest of the half with Pigott and Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) scoring for the Lions and Amanda Holsclaw (Abingdon, MD/Edgewood) and Bollhurst scoring for Salisbury. Spark's goal was her 50th of the season, while Bollhurst's came with one second left in the half knotting the score at 6-6.
Ties were a common theme in the second half as the teams were tied five times in first 20 minutes of the period before the Sea Gulls scored those late goals.

Pigott and Hill each netted four goals for TCNJ, while Spark netted a pair.

Bollhorst led all players with seven points scoring four times and assisting on three others.

In goal, Kelsey Zinck (Burke, VA/James W. Robinson) finished with five saves for the Lions.

TCNJ rounds out the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, April 17 hosting Rutgers-Camden at 7 p.m.
