Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey men's tennis team capped off a perfect weekend as the Lions won their second match in as many days topping visiting Washington College 7-2 on Sunday.
The win was the third straight for TCNJ as they improved to 8-3. The loss stopped Washington College's five-match winning streak at five as the Presidents are 8-5.
The Lions took control in doubles securing all three team points with the sweep.
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and
Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) got things rolling at first singles with an 8-6 win, while the second tandem of
TJ Riley (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Moorestown) and
Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) picked up an 8-5 triumph.
Marc Nichols (Lawrenceville, NJ/Princeton) and
Jordan Cruz (Manasquan, NJ/CBA) capped things off in the third spot doubling up the opposition, 8-4.
TCNJ added four victories in singles play to secure the win with
Steven Fernandez getting the first of those in the second spot by the scores of 6-4, 6-0. Nichols outlasted Vishnu Rajes at third singles as the Lion rallied from a 6-2 loss in the opening set to take to the next two, 6-2 and 6-4.
The other wins for the Lions came at fourth and sixth singles as Telson won in the fifth position (6-1, 7-5) and
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won at sixth singles (6-2, 6-1).
The Lions are home again on Wednesday, April 18 hosting Haverford College at 3:30 p.m.
