Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey men's tennis team cruised to its fourth straight victory as the Lions handled visiting Haverford College 8-1 on Wednesday.
The win puts the Lions at 9-3 on the season, while the Fords saw their three-match win streak halted, dropping to 10-6.
For the second straight match, TCNJ started extremely strong cleaning up all three points in doubles play. The first of those points came from the pair of
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and
Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) in the top slot as they won 8-2. The second pairing of
Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and
Marc Nichols (Lawrenceville, NJ/Princeton) then cruised 8-2. The third duo of
Jordan Cruz (Manasquan, NJ/CBA) and
Bill Carrig (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) outlasted their opponents with an exciting 9-8 (7-4) victory.
After the Fords netted their only point at first singles, the Lions rattled off wins in the final five spots. Nichols started that string at second singles, followed in succession by Telson,
Stewart Fernandez,
Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington), and
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown).
TCNJ is right back on the court tomorrow, April 19 hosting NCAA Division II Chestnut Hill College in 4 p.m. start.
