Ewing, NJ...For the second time this season, The College of New Jersey took on a NCAA Division II program and came away with a victory. The Lions blanked visiting Chestnut Hill College 9-0 on Thursday as TCNJ ran its winning streak to five straight.
The win was also the 10
th of the season as they are 10-3. TCNJ's other win over a Division II program was over Kutztown University.
The loss put the Griffins at 11-10.
In what has been a winning formula for the Lions of late, the team reeled off all three points in doubles.
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and
Stewart Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) were challenged in the top pairing, but came away with a 9-7 victory. Things got easier for the Lions as
Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and
Marc Nichols (Lawrenceville, NJ/Princeton) won 8-1 in the second slot and the tandem of
Jordan Cruz (Manasquan, NJ/CBA) and
Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) breezed to an 8-0 triumph.
Steven Fernandez won a three-set match at first singles coming out on top by the scores of 6-1, 2-6, 10-7. TCNJ won the final five points in straight sets as Nichols, Telson, Lee,
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown), and Cruz won in their respective positions.
The Lions round out the regular season on Wednesday, April 25 as they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 3:30 p.m.
