Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) picked up her fifth goal of the young season and The College of New Jersey's defense was perfect as the Lions posted a 1-0 field hockey win at FDU-Florham on Saturday.
The top-ranked Lions are a modest 2-0 on the season and extended its winning streak to 16 straight. The loss was the first of the season for the 2-1 Devils.
Nealon, who scored four times in the season opener, continued her hot scoring pace as she scored what turned out to be the game's only goal 9:34 into the contest. Sophomore
Victoria Martin (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) earned an assist on the play.
Freshman
Roisin Dougherty (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) made her collegiate debut a successful one as she registered three saves to earn the shutout.
Classmate
Mikayla Cimilluca (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) also played a key role in the win with a defensive save with 21:14 expired in the first half.
Next up for the Lions is their home opener on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Lions' Stadium. The game will also be their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener as TCNJ hosts Richard Stockton College.
