Lions swim past Owls for third straight

Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming team surged to a 169.5-116.5 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.

The victory marks the third straight dual meet win for the Lions, while the Owls suffered their first loss of the season.

TCNJ set the tone early with a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay. Junior Aleksander Burzynski (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's), senior Michael Oliva (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), sophomore Joseph Dunn (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and freshman Andrew Nesbitt (Somerset, NJ/St. Joseph's) posted a winning time of 1:36.08.

Freshman Ryan Gadjzisz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) won multiple individual events for the second straight meet capturing the 200-individual medley in 2:01.75 and the 500-freestyle in 4:44.01. He also finished second in the 1000-free in 9:51.38.

Burzynski claimed the 100-backstroke event with a finish of 53.42 and was runner-up in 200-IM posting 2:22.26. Dunn won the 100-butterfly in 51.63 and Nesbitt took top honors in the 200-free with a time of 1:44.95. The Lions swept the top three spots in that race as junior Brian Perez (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and freshman Scott Vitabile (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) placed second and third.

Perez won the 100-free in 48.42 and senior Philip Hawley (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) touched the wall first in the 50-free in 21.40.

The Lions take the next week off before traveling to New York University for a dual on November 16 at 1 p.m.
