Hot shooting TCNJ beats Richard Stockton, 89-60

Senior Tiffany DeTulio poured in a career-high 20 points.

Galloway, NJ…Right from the opening possession, The College of New Jersey's women's basketball team took control as the Lions never trailed en route to an 89-60 road win on Tuesday at Richard Stockton College.
 
The win kept TCNJ unbeaten in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at a modest 2-0, while they climbed above the .500 mark at 3-2. The 89 points was a season high and marked the third time in five games they have scored at least 80 points. The loss dropped the Ospreys to 0-2 in league play and 1-3 overall.
 
TCNJ's Kylie O'Donnell (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) sank a field goal 15 seconds into the game and the Lions rolled from their scoring the initial 10 points of the contest, while keeping Richard Stockton off of the board for the opening four minutes.
 
The Lions shot a blistering 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from behind the 3-point arc in the first half with junior Kelly Coughlin (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) getting the last of those with 55 seconds left in the period. That bucket from long range gave TCNJ its biggest lead of the frame at 46-24.
 
Richard Stockton added a basket before the end of the, but the Lions still held a comfortable 20-point advantage at the break.
 
Overall in the first half, the Lions sank 56.7 percent of their attempts from the floor knocking down 17 of 30 shots.
 
Like the opening half, TCNJ started strong using an 8-2 run to extend the margin to 54-28 with senior Tiffany DeTulio (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) accounting for half of the points during that stretch.
 
The Lions led big throughout the second the second frame as Liz West (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) made a bucket with 9:45 left extending to what at the time was the team's biggest lead at 69-41.
 
The biggest lead for TCNJ came in the closing seconds when freshman Taryn Corrigan (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) fittingly sank a 3-pointer putting the margin at 89-59, before the hosts tacked on one last point.
 
DeTulio led a very balanced attack for the Lions as she netted a career-high 20 points, while senior Kelly Roddy (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) also enjoyed the best offensive game of her career with 18 points. In all, 12 different TCNJ players scored with Coughlin the third Lion to reach double figures with 10.
 
It didn't matter where TCNJ shot from as they were consistently sharp from all ranges. They hit 56.4 percent (31-for-53) from the floor, 65 percent (13-for-20) on their long-range attempts, and for good measure were 82.4 percent (14-for-17) at the foul line.
 
The Lions will have a short break in the schedule before returning to the court on Wednesday, December 4 for a home conference game against Kean University.
