Box Score

Fort Lauderdale, FL…Faced with the task of taking on the third best scoring offense in the country, The College of New Jersey's women's basketball team responded in a big way as the Lions collected an 84-73 win over 24th-ranked Randolph-Macon College in the Cruzin Classic on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets were scorching the opposition at a clip of 93.6 points per game, but were slowed by a Lion defense kept them 20 points under their average. It was also their lowest scoring output of the season against a Division III opponent. TCNJ is also very capable of putting up points as they eclipsed the 80-point plateau for the fourth time this season.

The win was the fifth straight for the Lions as they improved to 6-2, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 9-2.

R-MC led 39-34 at the half, but TCNJ came out clicking at both ends of the floor and took the lead at 40-39. When all was said and done, the Lions put together a nice 20-5 run over the first six minutes of the half for a 54-44 lead and then protected that lead until the final horn.

The Lions featured four players in double figures with senior Tiffany DeTulio (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) leading the charge with 17 points. Sophomore Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. Vianney) was next with 13 and junior Kylie O'Donnell (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) recorded a double-double with 12 points and career-high 12 rebounds. Senior Kelly Roddy (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) chipped in with 10 points.

TCNJ had a big advantage on the glass, outrebounding R-MC 58-36 and 18 of those came on the offensive end of the floor.

The Lions cap their two-game trip in Florida with another early start on Friday, December 20 when they play Emory and Henry College at 9:30 a.m.
