Lions push win streak to six

Fort Lauderdale, FL…The 2013 portion of the schedule came to a close for The College of New Jersey women's basketball team and the Lions made sure they capped it off with a win as they defeated Emory & Henry College 60-49 on Friday in the Cruzin Classic in Florida.
 
The win extended TCNJ's winning streak to six straight and the team ended December with a perfect 4-0 record. Overall they are 7-2 on the season.
 
The Lions jumped all over the Wasps in the first half scoring the game's first 21 points and enjoyed led 24-1 before Emory & Henry made its first field goal with 9:34 left in the opening frame.
 
TCNJ took its biggest lead of the game at 30-5 on a 3-pointer by freshman Kim Dana (Freehold, NJ/Freehold). The Lions would then lead 34-15 at the half.
 
In the second half, the Wasps trailed by double figures until the final minute of the game, trimming the deficit to 57-49, but TCNJ picked up the final three points to seal the victory.
 
Junior guard Kelly Coughlin (Trumbull, CT/Trumball) led a very balanced TCNJ offense with 10 points, while senior Kelly Roddy (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) and sophomore Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. Vianney) each had nine. Senior Colleen Duffy (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) had a nice game with eight points and 11 rebounds, while senior Tiffany DeTulio (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) had seven points and a game-high five assists.
 
The Lions are idle until 2014 when they return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play hosting Ramapo College on January 4 at 1 p.m.
