Clermont, FL... Freshman pitcher
Ashtin Helmer (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) tossed a five-inning no-hitter against Rhode Island College as The College of New Jersey softball team won two more games in Florida on Tuesday.
The Lions used that no-hitter in the day's opening game to beat Rhode Island College and then completed the two-game sweep for the day by topping Manhattanville College, 11-2 in six innings.
Helmer shrugged off a lengthy rain delay to record the no-hitter in only her second collegiate start as the Lions dropped Rhode Island College by the score of 10-0. She finished with three strikeouts and allowed only four base runners
At the midway point of their trip, the Lions own a record of 5-1.
The Lions will enjoy an off day on Wednesday, before being the final half of their spring trip with six games over the final three days. The first two of those games are on Thursday, March 14, facing Wesleyan College and Farmingdale State.
