TCNJ coasts past Ramapo College, 19-1

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team remained undefeated by handling visiting Ramapo College 19-1 on Wednesday.
 
The win was TCNJ's 14th straight in the New Jersey Athletic Conference as they moved to 2-0, while improving to 4-0 overall. The Roadrunners fell to 0-3 and this was their conference opener.
 
Senior Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) was the catalyst for the Lions in the first half factoring in on eight the team's first goals. She scored the initial three goals of the game and went on to dish out five assists as the Lions jumped out to an 11-0 lead at the just past midway point of the half.
 
TCNJ added three more goals before the break with junior Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) scoring two of them and freshman Megan Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) getting the other.
 
Freshman Lindsay Hughes (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley) scored Ramapo's goal with 6:27 left in the half.
 
The Lions scored all five goals in the final half with sophomore Lauren Karpovich (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and freshman Carly Walters (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each getting two and senior Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) accounting for the other. The two goals by Walters were the first of her collegiate career.
 
Spark led all players with her eight points, while junior Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., Monroe Twp.) added three goals and two assists and sophomore Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) scored three times and assisted on another. Freshman Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) also netted the first goal of her career.
 
In addition to her goal for Ramapo, Hughes grabbed eight draw controls to raise her league-leading total to 25.
Junior goalie Kelsey Zinck (Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson) made three saves to earn the win for the Lions, while Julia Giordano (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) made one.
Roadrunner goalie Reagan Vier (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) finished with seven saves.
 
TCNJ faces its tough task of the season on Saturday, March 16 hosting third-ranked SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m. in Lions' Stadium.
